Today is Africa World Heritage Day
In November 2015, the General Conference of UNESCO pronounced May 5 as Africa World Heritage Day, creating an opportunity for people around the world, mostly Africans, to celebrate the continent’s unique cultural and natural heritage.
This is a day for Africans to reflect on the continent’s heritage. We are blessed as a people and continent. The natural and cultural heritage are so unique to us, which no other continent in the world has.
It is an opportunity to rethink as Africans, and realize our mistakes and reposition ourselves to move our continent forward. We need to ask ourselves these critical questions and be sincere to ourselves, in order to rebrand our continent to make it one of the best if not the best:
Where are we as a continent? What are the reasons for our backwardness? Why Africans don’t love their own things? What do we lack that other continents have?
Until we answer those questions and many others, we will not realize our full potentials as a continent. Africa has all it takes to be developed, but we are still considered developing continent. AFRICA has all the best and again has all the worst.
Africa must rise up! Africans must rethink! Afrocentrism must be reflected in deep solidarity and we must wake up from our negative mentality. We must upgrade our continent’s status from dependency to independency, from developing to developed, from receiving to giving, etc.
Africans must be proud of their continent (its culture and natural heritage)! We must promote our continent to the highest! Africa must unite! Africa is for Africans and can only be developed by Africans. We must believe in ourselves. Yes, we can! God has blessed us a lot as a people and continent. Let us not abuse this opportunity. Let utilize this opportunity. Let us cherish AFRICA.
