The Executive Director of Archbishop Michael Francis Media Foundation, Daniel Dani Cooper has called for cancellation of agreement between World Family of Maria and the Monrovia Archdiocese for the smooth operation of the Catholic Media Center/Radio Veritas.
In December 2016, Radio Maria officially took over from Radio Veritas through an agreement supported by Catholics in Liberia. However, the Michael Francis Media Foundation seems to be unhappy with the way the agreement is being implemented. The Executive Director of the Foundation, Daniel Cooper has challenged the agreement, and now called for its immediate cancellation because, according to him, the agreement has left the once powerful catholic radio station in “perpetual” closure.
“Your Grace, we will like to remind you, since 2016 December, Radio Maria officially took over from Radio Veritas which was supported by projects and Catholics in Liberia, right now there seems to be no future for the only Catholic Radio in the Country because the World Family of Radio Maria have shown lack of interest to fully funds the Liberian Radio Maria Project for its operation”, Executive Director Cooper is quoted as saying in a communication sent to the Most Reverend Lewis Jerome Ziegler , Archbishop of Monrovia.
Daniel Cooper noted that an agreement meant to provide logistical, capacity building and financial supports to the Radio Veritas, now Radio Maria, has turned as nightmare for them. He therefore called on the Archdiocese of Monrovia to kindly cancel the agreement between the Archdiocese of Monrovia and the World Family of Radio Maria because the agreement since its establishment bears “no” fruit of progress, but total setback to the only Catholic Radio in Liberia.
He said, giving the role radio communication plays in the spiritual, social and cultural development of society, it was necessary to rethink the agreement so as to quickly restore the vibrancy of Radio Varitas, citing what he termed as “don’t care attitude from one party ((the World Family of Radio Maria) as reason for cancellation of agreement.
“As a foundation that stalwartly believe in the social teachings of the Catholic Church which has it origin in the gospel of Christ, we are deeply concerned about the persistent closure of the Catholic Media Center”, he lamented in the communication.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Michael Francis Media Foundation has advanced several recommendations to Archbishop of Monrovia, Lewis Jerome for the reopening of Radio Veritas, which include: giving the operations’ right of the radio station to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Liberia (CABICOL) or organizations with in the local Church, the operation of the Catholic Media Center/Radio Veritas return to its status code as it relate to its independent void of political or individual connection and interference, various organizations (Knights of Saint John International, Knights of Marshall, CMO, CWO, CYAA, CYO & etc.) within the Church take over sponsorship of the station, etc.
