Amid the financial crisis in Liberia, the first female vice president of Liberia hail from Zorzor in Lofa County said she will lobby with sons and daughters of the County that are currently in the CDC led Government to raise an estimated amount of Forty Thousand United States Dollars ($40,000 USD) to support Curran Lutheran Hospital, a faith based institution in Lofa which Government has not given budgetary supports from 2018-2019.
VP Taylor made the statement when she attended a mini rally organized by Zorzor District authority to help keep the Hospital functional. At the Mini rally, the Vice President of Liberia made an initial contribution of One Hundred Thousand Liberian Dollars ($100,000 LD) for the up keep of the Hospital. According to VP Taylor, Fifty Thousands Liberian Dollars ($50,000LD) was her initial contribution to the Hospital while the additional Fifty Thousands Liberian Dollars was given on behalf of Sumo Galakpah Kupee, Former Senator of Lofa County who has vowed to contest for Lofa County Senatorial seat in the 2020 Senatorial Election.
Curran Hospital which is presently facing drugs shortage, logistical Problems and encompassed by financial stagnation to maintain its medical staffs and facilities, was established 1924 by the Lutheran Church in Liberia with 152 beds and outpatient services. It provides critical health care for large regions including parts of neighboring Guinea. Prior to the civil crisis in Liberia, the finically challenged Hospital enjoyed oversea financial supports from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the United States of America and it was renovated by the same Evangelical Lutheran Church after it was looted and vandalized during the war in Liberia, but it oversea supports have slowly gone down. When Madam Ellen Johnson Serleaf became president of Liberia in 2005, the Hospital benefited few budgetary supports from the Ellen’s regime but it budgetary supports have fallen in the current regime. The financially challenged Hospital currently has supervision over 23 clinics and is also operating a nursing school.
