On Saturday, December 7, a fourteen year old boy hung himself in a community called Dakweta around the Battery Factory Community. Reason(s) for hanging himself has not been established as the public is stunned over the sudden wave of suicide cases in Monrovia and its environs.
According to secondary sources living near the house in which the boy hung himself, Omaru as he was commonly called, came from practicing with his friends at the basketball court in Battery Factory, and the deceased asked his mother to give him the bath room key so he could go to take his bath. Following the handling of the bath room key, Omaru went at the front of their house according to sources, where he was seen sitting and sucking what many Liberians commonly called ‘kiss meat’ and when he noticed that everyone eyes have left him, he left quietly and entered the bath room where he used his sleeping garment’s rope to suspend himself to death.
The sources added, prior to the fourteen year old suicide incident on Saturday at 1:00 PM, the suicide victim told the mother that he wanted to visit his aunty living in the Barnesville Estate outside Monrovia, but the mother turned down his request because his aunty in questioned told the deceased mother not to allow him (Omaru) to go Barnesville Estate. Reason was, his friends he had in the estate have all turned loose in the area. This allegation if proven, could have led to the cause of the suicide that is still left unanswered. Omaru’s suicide is the second case in series during this month of Xmas in Monrovia and its environs. Exactly four days ago, a nine year old student of the Saint Theresa’s Convent was seen hung in her parents room on Johnson Street in Monrovia with no established cause.
