Liberia, EU Signed Two Financing Agreements

Liberia and European Union (EU), today, May 22, 2020 signed two Financing Agreements value at USD59 million, a dispatch from EU has said. The financing agreement is under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF). EU Ambassador Helene Cave singed on behalf of the European Union, while Finance Minister, Samuel D. Tweah signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia.

The signing ceremony took place via an e-ceremony due to Covid-19 restrictions. Representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Development Planning; Youth and Sports, Education and Energy and other important stakeholders participated in the signing ceremony.

The two programs will target rural electrification program in the South-East 🇱🇷 region, with USD46 million, and technical and vocation education and training (TEVET) for young people, with USD13 million.

During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Hélène Cavé reiterated the European Union’s commitment to support Liberia’s social and economic development agenda, and recovery from challenges caused by the recent and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
