Addressing a News conference on Tuesday after his returned from the United States, Senator Dillon says he challenged anyone to prove illegal the act to stage a peaceful protest called the “Weah Step down” campaign pending December 30 as unconstitutional and anybody behind it is not in in the interest of the country.
The Montserrado County Senator referenced Chapter IV article 64 of the Liberia Constitution which states, vacancy can only be created in the office of the president or sit of the president can only be vacant by reason of removal, death, resignation, inability of the president. He further stressed, the resignation of the president could ether be the president willingness to resign or one could ask the president to resign , and the Council of Patriots (COP) decision to ask President Weah to step down due to the numerous social and economic problems Liberians are facing is not treasonous.
Senator Dillonn statement comes following the Minister of justice Frank Musah Dean on December 2 replied to a letter sent by the Council of Patriots Acting Chairman Mohammed Ali asking the Ministry to provide the COPs security protection to hold ‘a peaceful assembly’ in Monrovia beginning December 30, 2019. In respond to the letter sent by the Council of Patriots, Justice Minister Frank Musah Dean mentioned that the Council planned actions to stage a protest called the “ Weah Step Down” campaign beginning December 30, is unconstitutional and it speaks treason at the result, the Government of Liberia will not provide security for said group protection in Monrovia and the Government of Liberia will hold liable individually, collectively the leadership of the COPs culpable and liable under the law for consequences associated with their actions.
